- Policy To ensure that everyone at Capricorn Care Services is aware of the Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Policy and Procedure and the procedures in place to identify, respond appropriately and report in line with local and national guidance. This policy refers to adults who may be at risk; procedures for children are detailed in the Child Protection Policy and Procedure.
This policy must be read alongside other relevant policies. Capricorn Care Services will ensure that staff understand Local Authority safeguarding reporting procedures and that these are communicated to all staff. Related policies include, but are not limited to, PM11 – Whistleblowing Policy and Procedure, AR01 – Child Protection Policy and Procedure, Recruitment Policy and Procedure, Right to Work Checks Policy and Procedure and Agency Staff Policy and Procedure.

Objectives To promote awareness of concerns surrounding slavery and human trafficking and demonstrate Capricorn Care Services’ commitment to addressing slavery and human trafficking in all its forms. An annual statement will be produced where applicable.
To ensure that identification, protection, care and support for victims of modern slavery and human trafficking is central to safeguarding procedures at Capricorn Care Services.
Policy Statement Modern slavery is a crime and a violation of fundamental human rights. It includes slavery, servitude, forced or compulsory labour, and human trafficking.
AHC Services Ltd t/a Capricorn Care Services has a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery within its operations and supply chains. We are committed to acting ethically and with integrity and implementing effective systems to ensure that modern slavery is not taking place within the organisation or associated third parties.
All staff will be made aware of modern slavery issues and supported to report concerns. Capricorn Care Services will also support any staff who may be affected.
Where modern slavery is identified, Capricorn Care Services will share information with the Local Authority Safeguarding Team to protect individuals and prevent future harm.
Managers are responsible for ensuring compliance with this policy.
Employees must report concerns to their line manager.
Capricorn Care Services will provide training and ensure awareness of modern slavery risks.
Procedure Reporting Concerns
· If someone is at immediate risk, call 999.
· Report concerns to a line manager and Registered Manager immediately.
· The Registered Manager will escalate to the Local Authority Safeguarding Team.
· A CQC notification will be made where required.
Safer Recruitment All staff are subject to robust recruitment checks including DBS, identity, right to work, references and employment history.
Capricorn Care Services will only use compliant third-party agencies.
Training All staff will receive training on recognising indicators of modern slavery, including:
· Lack of pay or control of wages
· Confiscation of documents
· Restricted movement
· Signs of abuse or neglect
· Fearful or withdrawn behaviour
· Poor living conditions
Staff must report concerns immediately.
COVID Considerations Capricorn Care Services will continue to identify and manage risks of modern slavery during operational changes, including supply chain risks and recruitment pressures.
Review of Effectiveness Capricorn Care Services will:
· Monitor risks within supply chains
· Provide staff training
· Review safeguarding procedures
Definitions Human Trafficking: Recruitment or movement of individuals for exploitation through coercion or deception.
Modern Slavery: Includes slavery, forced labour, servitude and trafficking.
Exploitation includes sexual, criminal, financial and cultural exploitation.
Governing Statement This policy supports compliance with the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and reflects the commitment of AHC Services Ltd t/a Capricorn Care Services to safeguarding and ethical practice.
